چکیده

Two stalagmites from Nerja cave (Andalusia, Spain) were studied. The is well known because of its long human occupation the Upper Palaeolithic to Chalcolithic and abundant parietal prehistoric Art. aims this study twofold: i) compare uranium/thorium (230Th/234U) Carbon-14 (14C) ages obtained all along growth axis in order understand consequences diagenetic processes on validity radiometric ages; ii) as one contains black layers, attributed combustion soot, establish when these intense hearths used by which culture. 230Th/234U 14C coupled with mineralogical studies using FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) thin section observations. first stalagmite (GN16-9b) displays stratigraphic order, compatible corrected for a few percent dead carbon. Homogeneous composition aragonitic crystals characterized their needle-like texture observed throughout speleothem. For second (GN16-7), contrast, display large significant inversions discordant results upper part at base stalagmite, suggesting possible open system behavior chronometer. The chronology of hand stencils in European Palaeolithic rock art: implications of new U-series results from El Castillo Cave (Cantabria, Spain).

The hand stencils of European Paleolithic art tend to be considered of pre-Magdalenian age and scholars have generally assigned them to the Gravettian period. At El Castillo Cave, application of U-series dating to calcite accretions has established a minimum age of 37,290 years for underlying red hand stencils, implying execution in the earlier part of the Aurignacian if not beforehand. Togethe...

Rewriting the Central European Early Bronze Age Chronology: Evidence from Large-Scale Radiocarbon Dating

The transition from the Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age in Central Europe has often been considered as a supra-regional uniform process, which led to the growing mastery of the new bronze technology. Since the 1920s, archaeologists have divided the Early Bronze Age into two chronological phases (Bronze A1 and A2), which were also seen as stages of technical progress. On the basis of the early...

Radiocarbon chronology of Manot Cave, Israel and Upper Paleolithic dispersals

The timing of archeological industries in the Levant is central for understanding the spread of modern humans with Upper Paleolithic traditions. We report a high-resolution radiocarbon chronology for Early Upper Paleolithic industries (Early Ahmarian and Levantine Aurignacian) from the newly excavated site of Manot Cave, Israel. The dates confirm that the Early Ahmarian industry was present by ...
